Four Fields of Kingdom Growth

The Four Fields is a strategy for making disciples and planting churches based on what Jesus taught in Mark 4. It starts with a simple parable (a farmer and an empty field) and maps out the stages of how the kingdom of God grows: going to the lost, sharing the gospel, growing through discipleship, and gathering as the church.

The four stages & their tools

Go

As the farmer enters an empty field, Jesus entered into lostness. The first stage is to engage people who are far from God. Two tools we use to find and engage the lost: Oikos Maps and Houses of Peace.

Gospel

Next the farmer sows seed in the empty field. Jesus compares the gospel to seed. We are commanded to share the good news with people who are far from God. Here are a few tools we’ve found helpful.

Grow

As the seed sprouts and grows, the farmer nurtures the plants in the field. Jesus helped believers grow by discipling them. 411 and Commands of Christ are helpful tools for biblical discipleship.

Gather

Now that the crop is ready to harvest, the farmer gathers it together. Jesus gathers his disciples into communities called church. We believe Acts 2 is a great example of what this looks like.
